I'm currently a MSc. computer science student at University of Twente in the Netherlands. In the past I've worked at Deutsche Bank, True Beacon and Expensify. A bank, hedge fund and a chat based finance superapp.

Software

I spend 30% of my time writing code and building things with computers. I have a huge amount of projects that I created for fun.

I use Golang, TypeScript, C++, React Native and Java on a daily basis and I love them. I adore learning how things work on the low-level and frequently go down rabbit holes, which usually leads me to computer networks, operating systems and databases and a LOT of math. I also like design and I'm a sucker for clean UX.

I've traveled to 13 countries and 4 continents. A remote job has enabled me to do that.

In the spring of 2023, I went to Curaçao for ExpensiConX. Where I met the best react native engineers from around the world to work on a fintech superapp. See [hackathon].

My take on AI

I used GPT-3 in 2021 - the pre-chatgpt era to build a mock video interview platform based on your resume. We won first place for it in a hackathon! I've also won prizes at Princeton and UIUC hackathons.[R.A.N.T. - Robots Are Not Taking our jobs] (because they're helping people get jobs...get it?)

Crazy how fast things have changed. I now believe that AI will boost productivity and lead to companies requiring less number of software engineers. Kinda analogous to what bloomberg terminal did to the finance industry in the 1980s.

Flying!

Gliders don't have an engine!! They gain altitude by riding rising columns of warm air known as thermals. Thermals lift them higher into the sky. You can travel up to 400 km by hopping from one thermal to another without an engine.

I think gliders are way cooler than airplanes with engines. I plan on getting a solo glider licence within 2 years. Right now, I fly in a Schempp-Hirth Duo Discus, which is a two seater glider.

Film making, first person shooter games & age of empires 2

The first video game that I've ever played was Battlefield: bad company on my PS3. I grew a liking for FPS games as a kid. It inspired me to make a short film using paper guns during my school break back in 2014 with my friends.

My [short film] got 160K views. And I made my first 100 dollars. This was a big thing for a 14 year old kid. Almost made me consider film making as a career haha.

I don't play FPS games now, but sometimes I do play a strategy game - age of empires 2.

Go Karting

I grew up in Bahrain. So I had the pleasure to attend Formula 1 races once a year. I'll admit that I never understood how the race worked until very recently.

This got me into karting. Not F1 but hehe. I love karting on weekends. When I'm racing, the adrenaline puts me in the zone and I don't think about anything else but the present moment. The now! 10 on 10 recommended.

Finance

I have a good understanding of stocks, derivatives and the math that goes into pricing them. I like the world of quantitative and high frequency trading. I'm interested in working in trading firms and market making firms.

Projects - cool stuff that I've built
